Up at old Halas Hall, we had a janitor, Richard McMurrin, who used to draw this sarcastic little cartoon for the team to enjoy when we walked into the complex. It was one panel about whatever went on that week, and it was a good thing I could take a joke.

Once I got up there and my antics started getting infamous, most every week it’d be one of me.

Since I’d been out of work for six weeks, money was kind of tight. I’d been paying on my Cadillac, on my mother’s, and on my house in Austin and trying to help the family, but after New England cut me there were no more checks coming in.

So I was still paying on my mother’s Cadillac, but not mine. When I got to Chicago, the car dealer found out that’s where I was, so he sent the repo guy to come get it. My Caddy actually got repossessed in the Halas Hall parking lot.
